Styled Off the Stoop: Four Easy Layered Looks for People Who Want to Look More “Dressed Up”.

One of my favorite things to do is to look at a store’s window display, and assess how the mannequins are styled. Whenever I am at work (my job is in close proximity to many shops), I like to stop by other stores to look at how they style their mannequins’ clothes.

Although most people have seen a window-display at least once during their life, many do not catch the simple style trick stores use to make their mannequins’ outfits look amazing.

What is the trick you ask?

The trick is layering!

To put it simply, layering is the method of wearing separate clothing items on top of each other to create a visually-complex and cohesive outfit.

I use layering throughout the year to make my outfits pop, and to ensure that I am wearing the pieces within my wardrobe as much as possible. I also love layering because it tricks people into thinking that I put a lot of thought into my outfits, and that I look “dressed up”. Although layering is a simple style trick, not everyone knows how to use it. Luckily, I am here to help!

For today’s post, I have taken the time to create four layered looks to give you inspiration on how to create layered looks to trick people into thinking that you are “dressed up” lol.

Use Patterns to Make Solid-Colored Pieces Pop

Turn your solid-colored clothes up a notch by adding a patterned piece. If you don’t usually wear patterns, but want to incorporate them more often within your outfits, I recommend going with a patterned outerwear item. That way, you can wear a patterned piece, but can take it off whenever you choose to.

Don’t Be Afraid to Incorporate Warm-Weather Pieces

You don’t have to stop wearing your warm-weather pieces just because it’s a little cold outside lol. Layer turtlenecks and other cold-weather items underneath your warm-weather pieces to give them longevity!

Go Neutral

If bright, poppy colors aren’t your thing, then go with neutral colors. Layer clothing items on the same color scheme to make heads turn.

Try Out Textures

Layer with textured clothing items to add complexity to your outfit. Whether it’s croc-embossed, patent leather, or anything in-between, texture can truly elevate a look.
